The tenth ancestor Wu Yuan (1146-1125) served as a military officer and was well-respected in the prefectures of Zhao and Jing. Concerned about his aging mother, he resigned the post to serve at home as an officer managing the Chongdao Temple. In order to cure his sick mother, he cut off a piece of flesh from his thigh and mixed it with medicine. After his mother’s death, he mourned at her graveside for three years. Touched by this, the county magistrate set up a memorial gate inscribed with the three characters “Chun Xiao Fang” (Pure Love for Parents) to praise him for his filial piety and loyalty.
